Hello, dear coffee lovers! Today I’m going to get in details about the traditional coffee culture in Brazil, the country that is the World’s Top Coffee Producer since 181 years ago, in 1840! Hope you enjoy this article.
Coffee inside the brazilian history
First of all, it is important to notice how coffee is intimately connected with Brazil’s history. The country started producing it in high scale during its Imperial age. Yes, Brazil used to be an Empire for more than 67 years. And for all that time, coffee was their greatest product.
The plant helped the country on maintaning its political and economic stability and also brought a lot of immigrants from Europe, in order to slowly replace the slaveforce. In fact, the coffee production helped to build this soup of multiple cultures that Brazil has become.
Since that period and also during the Old and New brazilian Republics, coffee was always responsible for a lot of the brazilian exports, and the money of its market, responsible for a lot of political and economic changes. For example, the political scene during the Old Republic, was called the “coffee and milk” politics (coffee with milk is a very common drink in Brazil), because of the great influence São Paulo (major coffee producer) and Minas Gerais (major dairy producer) had in the government issues.
Coffee inside brazilian culture
Until today, brazilians still really love coffee. Not only for its economic benefits for the country, but also for the drink’s roots being also each brazilian’s roots. Almost no-one in Brazil, can start a day without drinking coffee. Also, in some areas, like rural Minas Gerais, if you are a guest in someone’s house, and they offer you a cup of coffee, just accept it. Never deny it! Never, never, never. That would be an offense and almost a social crime!
So that’s how intimate brazilians are to coffee..
